The History of Western Australian Veteran Golfers Association The Western Australian Veteran Golfers Association Inc. was founded in 1982 following a visit by Mr. Macklin-Shaw, President South Australian Veteran Golfers Association. Following a meeting at Royal Fremantle Golf Club on 16 th August 1982 addressed by Mr. Macklin-Shaw a steering committee was formed on 20 th September and we became affiliated with the Australian Veteran Golfers Union, embracing veteran golfers throughout Australia . Inaugural steering committee: The first game was held at Royal Fremantle Golf Club on Friday 26 th November 1982 . Invited guests included: W.A. Veteran Golfers Membership now stands at over 700 in the metro area, playing 40 games a year at each others courses, in the South West over 500 play at 18 courses during the year. Western Australian Veteran Golfers Association. Inc. is affiliated with the Australian Veteran Golfers Union which has a President and Secretary and is controlled by one delegate from each State, W.A, S.A, Vic, Tas, NSW, A.C.T, Qld and N.T. The National Tournament rotates around the states each year and is run by that state body under the auspices of the Australian Veteran Golfers Union Inc. The Australian Veteran Golfers Union is affiliated with the world Federation of Seniors Golfers whose headquarters is in Broadmore USA where they play an annual international tournament open to all world players. The Australian total number of registered players is over 30,000 in all states, with 1,200 in W.A. |
